Office of Academic Compliance, Effectiveness, and Research (ACER) team from L to R: Dr. Cynthia Senior, education quality improvement director and director of assessment; Dr. Mitzi Norris, executive director of ACER and SACSCOC liaison; Dr. Ken Thompson, director of institutional research; Taylor Smith, project manager; and Kenny Heard, director of academic compliance.

The mission of the Office of Academic Compliance, Effectiveness, and Research (ACER) is to promote excellence in all of UMMC's academic endeavors.

ACER directs the campus-wide Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation to comply with core requirements, comprehensive standards, and federal requirements and advises schools on program accreditation.

ACER oversees institutional assessment as a process to use data to improve academic programs and services. The office also coordinates new program development and navigates academic program changes. This process is informed by the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning, our governing board.

In an effort to complete the learning cycle, ACER additionally oversees Continuing Health Professional Education activities and accreditation to facilitate lifelong learning for health professionals.
